The deployment of police battalions which are wrongly known as security forces is something to ponder about. One should understand the gravity of the problems created by the action of these people in uniform.
This is not something new to us, we have witnessed such atrocities for more than six decades now, and ironically, none of the countries in any part of the world has ever objected to this horrific style of human rights violation.
Even people in India, potentially the intellectuals and religious leaders should have at least voiced their concern against this kind of open brutality; but, paradoxically no one ever speaks up. Normally, if something of such magnitude ever happens, people should rally behind such protesters. It is indeed shameful and highly critical to notice that none of the Indian states have joined our peaceful protests and neither have they voiced against what is happening in our state, except some rare protests in Delhi.
In Bangalore only Kashmiri residents and students held some peaceful demonstration. People in our valley are murdered and brutally assaulted, but, no one comes to their rescue.
It is debatable as to why neither the Indian people nor the political parties are concerned about the killings and mass destruction that we have to witness time and again. Is human consciousness dead or do they treat Kashmiris as ghaddar (betrayal) and hence, prefer remaining as mere spectators.
Here I would like to quote Pastor Martin Niemoeller, as he famously says,
In Germany they first came for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up."
A great majority of Indians still feel that Kashmiris owe allegiance to Pakistan and that, there is no freedom movement as such and that it is just a religious war which is aimed to wipeout the non-Muslim population from that region.
They don’t understand the real conflict and as to who is suffering. For them army/police is doing their job and they that protect their country, therefore, they have the license to kill. The recent events have once again brought to light the unabated use of such powers to kill innocents in the name of security. They can kill anyone, even babies.
Patients were not allowed to go to the hospital which resulted in their death. If they slap you for no fault of yours you cannot turn around and ask “why”, as that can even result in your death. At midnight, if people in uniform knock at your door and you don’t answer at once, your existence is doomed. Sleeping in such conditions is a real challenge. No one in Kashmir actually sleeps; they are always awake, almost prepared for any eventuality that might befall them. The pain that an average Kashmiri goes through in his/her life time is immeasurable. It would be fair enough to say that they become unconscious than to say that they sleep. There is nothing called as value for a human life here, forget about human rights.
A typical Kashmiri these days is like this, on your way home with your friends, you will see people peacefully protesting against the brutality of police forces and suddenly you will hear a painful cry, people rushing to the spot, gathering in thousands and women loudly mourning, children restlessly crying, young men boiling with anger and tears rolling down their angry eyes. Soon you will discover that yet another young protester has just been killed. One after another has been slaughtered these days and it just goes on and on.
Why are such human rights violation on the earth not politically debated in the world media and acted upon. World political powers, should understand that this crisis is not going to end.
It has been there for more than six decades now and it will continue to be so until some kind of compromise is reached upon. Of course, an average Kashmiri thinks that their destination is close to Azadi and that it will be reaped very soon.
But when will it happen? A peaceful resolution of such a long lingering conflict can only be made possible if the sensible people in India try to seriously understand the political dimensions of this conflict and make it clear in their minds that it is NOT a religious war. A peaceful solution will bring about prosperity and peace in the entire region and to mankind as a whole.
Thus stands the paradise on earth
